Stellarium

Stellarium is a program that simulates the night sky in 3D. It shows you what you can see with binoculars or small telescopes. It has an extensive catalog of stars and nebulae. I was quite impressed with the accuracy of the location of the planets and their satellites. For me as a beginner it is a fun and intuitive tool to learn more about astronomy. I can highly recommend it.
